Input Terminals of Fatek PLC Hardware
Below is the picture of input terminals of Fatek PLC. This is Fatek PLC hardware, model number 14-MAR-2-AC and we are taking this an example, just for learning hardware wiring. Important terminals are same in every PLC hardware, of every PLC manufacturers.
There are following terminals on the top side of the Fatek PLC. There are three types of terminals,
- S/S
- Dot
- X0 - X10
Let's discuss these terminals step by step.
- S/S : This S/S is sink source terminal. In this terminal, we have to connect the opposite input supply of the input X0 - X10 terminals. For example, we have "24 volts" inputs, which is positive input. Now, as we have positive inputs, we will connect negative "0 volts" to S/S terminal. Because, when we want to operate something, we need a positive connection and a negative connection wire. Here, to operate the input terminals, we have to connect opposite input supply in S/S (sink source terminal). In short, when we have positive input, we will connect negative wire to sink source terminal. When we have negative inputs, we will connect positive to sink source terminal.
- Dot : This terminal is empty terminal.
- X0 - X10 : This terminals are the input terminals of the PLC. We connect inputs to these terminals.
Output Terminals Of Fatek PLC Hardware
Below is the picture of the output terminals of the Fatek PLC hardware, where we connect PLC outputs to get required signals as per PLC programming.
These are the terminals we have in the output side, which is in the bottom of the Fatek PLC. There are something we have to understand about getting output from the Fatek PLC. According to the above diagram of output terminals of Fatek PLC, there are five different types of terminals.
- In this terminals, we have to connect input supply which will switch ON the PLC. This can be 220 volts AC, or 24 volts DC, depends upon the type of the PLC.
- This terminal is known as "Common" terminal. As it is mentioned in the Fatek PLC, "C0" which means this is "Common terminal number 0". Let's learn about the function of this terminal. This common terminal is use to supply the output terminals. For example, we want positive 24 volts from the output "Y0", we will connect 24 volts (which we want from Y0), and we will get this 24 volts from Y0 output terminal. If we supply negative "0 volt" to "common terminal", we will get negative output from "Y0" terminal. Now, another thing here we have to understand is, there are two terminals "y0 and Y1" after "C0" common terminal which means this Y0 and Y1 will depend on C0. Then after "C0", there is another common contact "C2", and in this dependency, there are three output terminals Y1, Y2 and Y3". This means, when a positive 24 volts is connected to common C2 terminal, the output terminals Y1, Y2 and Y3 will give positive output. This is how output terminals work.
- These terminals having number Y0 - Y10 are the outputs terminals.
When we supply input 220 volts (or 24 volts DC, in case of the PLC is DC), we automatically can get 24 volts DC from the input side terminals. This means, we do not need to connect another 24 volts for input terminals. I hope you understand the terminals and wiring of Fatek PLC.
