How to Operate Internal PLC in Delta VFD Drive

Alright so in this article of lesson, we will be discussing about the PLC operation in Delta VFD. You might be wondering about what PLC operation is right? The delta VFD drive has an internal PLC inside. Some of you weird, but yes this Delta VFD drive has internal PLC inside. By this internal PLC, we can have different setup speed, with different time intervals, and that's very interesting.




Many times we have a motor in the mixer, and we have to mix different material, on different speed, and different time. You have to set the recipe for that, yes we can say it recipe. I have a recipe let's say and I have to operate motor in first 20 hertz speed, then 30 hertz and then so on and then come back to zero frequency automatically and without using any external terminals to change the speed or do this task. We can use parameter 17 to parameter 23, which are of 1 to 7 different steps of speed in the delta VFD.  This is what the recipe is, that we can make it by using the internal PLC of the Delta VFD.

There are following steps to use the internal frequency of delta vfd.


  1. First of all, set different targeted frequencies to parameters 17 to parameter 23.
  2. For timing setting, please go to parameter number 81, which is of time duration of first step speed. This time will be on "Seconds". You can set this time for all 7 different steps of frequencies from parameter 81 to parameter 88.
  3. Now, the question is how to use this steps by PLC? 
  4. In that case, there are two more steps you have to do. First is you have to enable PLC mode from parameter number 78. Parameter 78 says, PLC operation mode. By default, pr 78 which is a PLC mode, this is disable by default. We have to enable PLC by putting "01". "01" means PLC will execute process only one cycle.
  5. To run the internal PLC, we have to use one control terminal, let's take "M3" to run the internal PLC o delta VFD.
  6. As we know "M3" is parameter 40, in this parameter 40, we have to enter parameter for "Run PLC". In the parameter 40, we have to enter 16,  now this internal PLC mode will run when I turn Y3, which energize M3.


When Y3 will be turn ON. It will switch ON M3 terminal by giving it a ground signal. By turning M3 on, PLC will be in run mode and it will run every setup that we have set in the parameters.
